Demystifying Western Prints
What is the difference
between an Open Edition, a Limited Edition and an Artist’s Proof Print?
Owning a Western Print is the perfect addition
to compliment any western style décor.
Purchasing an Open Edition western print is usually the most available and affordable option
for beginning western art collectors. Many well known artists usually offer both, open edition and limited
edition prints. An open edition print has no restriction on how many copies can be reproduced over
time.
A Limited Edition print has a predetermined number of copies that will
be printed. Once that limit has been reached no additional quantities are available unless purchased on the
secondary market. Limited editions are usually always signed and numbered by the artist.
An Artist’s Proof are the artist’s personal prints that are usually given to him or her as
part of the printing… usually 10% of the overall number printed. There is no difference in print quality
between the limited edition and the artist’s proof, but typically artist proofs are more highly valued as
collectibles, both initially and in the future.
Whichever type of print you chose, making your purchase from a reputable source helps ensure
the quality and authenticity
